9/12/1686Aurangzeb ended Adilshah's kingdom. The garrison lost heart and surrendered Sikandar who was sent to the state prison at Daulatabad. Bijapur was invested and the city opened its gates to the Mughals. Bijapur as an independent kingdom ceased to exist.
3/25/1911L. D. Swamikannu publishes ""Manual of Indian Chronology"" in Bombay.
3/25/1911Alauddin Khilji captured Chittorhgarh after defeating Rana Bhim Singh. Before the capture, Padmini, the beautiful queen along with several hundred females, had sacrificed herself in fire (Jouhar Pratha). This whole battle was fought due to Padmini.
10/14/1980S. N. Banerjee, cricketer--one Test for India and 249 runs 10th wkt stand on tour, died.
1/18/1936Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), famous English writer and author, died in Burwash, England at 70. He was a young journalist in British India. He wrote in verses, stories, novels childen's stories some of these were ""The Jungle Book, Kim and Just-50 stories"" and was honoured with the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907 for 'Kim' (Indian based story).
9/1/1947Mahatma Gandhi undertakes a fast for unity among Hindus and Muslims. He breaks the fast after 73 hours when peace is restored.
