Guwahati, Feb 17 (IANS) A section of students at the Assam University in Silchar have enforced a hunger strike and shutdown for around a week, protesting against the rustication of a research scholar, who they claim, exposed corruption in the institution.
The strike entered the eighth day on Monday, while the hunger strike was on for six days.
The students have been boycotting classes and holding a noisy sit-in demonstration outside the varsity's main gate demanding the revocation of the rustication order served on research scholar Milon Das, for allegedly bringing to light corruption in the institution.
They have also demanded withdrawal of the FIR lodged against Das and an assurance from the authorities that no action would be taken against the agitators.
The protests started from February 10 after the university authorities rusticated Das for two yeas.
