Historical Event on 7/20/1991

Chithira Tirunal Bala Rama Varma, former Maharaja of Travancore, passed away at the age of 78 years after a brief illness. His term as the descendant of the Chera dynasty saw many progressive reforms in the field of legislation, education and many more. He was hailed as ""Ashoka the second"", and Gandhiji parised him as a ""Historical wonder"".

9/24/1861Madame Bhikaji Rustom Cama, mother of the Indian Revolution, was born in Bombay. From an early age she took interest in social and political work.
2/28/1835Medical College was started in Calcutta and it was officially opened on Feb 20.

6/9/1964Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India when the country was shocked of Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Indo-China war. Shastri gave the quotation ""Jai Jawan Jai Kisan"" which motivated the war-affected Indians to boost their morale. He remained in this office till he died on January 11, 1966 at Taskent. In his cabinet, Indira Gandhi served as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.

1/26/1950Government of India accepted the National Emblem. It consisted of Head of Lion which is taken from Ashok piller situated near Sarnath.
