Man rides through a series of emotional roller coaster in a day. On a
typical day, you wake up in the morning after a good night sleep and you feel
good; you wear ironed dress to get to work and you feel positive; you work hard
to do the job and you are focused, attentive, dedicated; you are done with your
day's work and you feel satisfied; you are in your car to get back home but
caught in a bad traffic and you are frustrated; you reach home and see your
loved ones and you are pleased; you are delighted to have a sumptuous dinner;
you retire in bed feeling tired.

Feeling good and positive, staying focused, attentive and dedicated, having a
sense of satisfaction, getting frustrated, feeling pleased, delighted and tired
are all emotions. You went from feeling good to satisfied and then from being
frustrated to having a sense of delight and then to realizing tiredness. You go
through this day after day without complaining. You realize these emotions with
its intensity and you have counter emotions depending on the intensity.

With this in background, let us see how a few hormones contribute positively and
negatively.

What are Hormones?

Human hormones are communicators or the messengers in our body and it triggers
our cells to accomplish a particular action. Essentially, hormones are chemicals
and have been produced by the endocrine glands in the body. The other name of
the endocrine gland is ductless glands which has direct impact into the
bloodstream. Means hormones get released into the bloodstream and the
appropriate cells will receive message and the cell starts to behave the way it
has been told.

In our body there are few chemicals that are responsible for Lust, fear, Worry,
Attention seeking, feeling proud, fatigue, feeling powered, discontentment etc.
In my research, there are few Hormones play a vital role in our day to day life
and spiritual life. They are, Dopamine, Endorphin, oxytocin, Serotonin and
Cortisol. Remember, I am discussing only few major hormones when compared to a
huge list of hormones in our body.

Dopamine: Is also called reward hormone. It has an important role in
pleasure seeking, health, attention and creativity. Exercising and meditation
increases dopamine level in the brain. Dopamine deficiency can cause serious
social detachment and too much dopamine may cause negative physical, emotional
and cognitive affects like upset stomach, anger, irritability.

Hormones at various stages of love:

Love at physical level: A surge in dopamine results in paying excessive
attention to a person of opposite gender. Testosterone and Estrogen are fundamental
desire hormones.

Love at mental and emotional level: An increase in adrenaline, dopamine and
serotonin facilitates a person to fall in love. Serotin is responsible for
reminding again and again the other person to establish bondage and it sends
signals continuously to remind the person. Finally with the help of Oxytosin and
Vasopressin hormones take love to an attachment level that makes two commit to
each other on long term basis.

Love at spiritual level: A gradual churning of hormones surpasses love to
spiritual level that establishes an unbreakable bond where experience of the
expression 'duality to oneness' occurs.

Endorphin: Is the healing hormone. It is pleasant and most wanted. It reduces
pain and increases mobility. This hormone is naturally released during exercise.
It is also released while anticipating smile, laughing and thinking about
pleasurable activities.

Cortisol: Is known as 'the stress hormone.' It's secretion is need based.
Small increase of cortisol has some positive effects like memory function,
immunity, and quick release of survival energy.

Conclusion:

An indicator of an abnormal level of hormone is through extreme actions.
Extremity of hormone level on either side of the scale is not desirable.
Striking a balance is recommended and it is much for personal transformation.
The only way to keep the hormones balanced is to keep the Body and mind
synchronized all the time with harmony. Since any emotions triggers hormones and
hormones triggers the emotions.
