Friday, March 8th, 2019 - Atlanta, GA // A crowd of over 400 engaged community members came together on the occasion of International Womens Day to celebrate, recognize and witness 22 phenomenal women receive the 2019 Narayan Seva Sansthan SHAKTI awards for their hard work and dedication towards women empowerment.
The event was filled with several representatives of local businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, artists and health care organizations.
For Narayan Seva Sansthan, SHAKTI (Feminine Energy) is always at the heart of their efforts as they work to transform the futures of young girls and women through no cost surgeries, vocational trainings and educational programs.
To start the event off, an Unstoppable Women Fashion Show was dedicated to differently abled fashion show artists. The fashion show was a representation of 10 differently abled girls from India that have participated in one of the many fashion shows hosted by Narayan Seva Sansthan. Each differently abled girl makes her own outfit and displays it during the fashion show to emphasize that ones condition is not a barrier to fulfilling your dreams. Way to empower young girls!
The ability, strength, effort and energy that make up SHAKTI were also reflected in the lives of the 2019 SHAKTI award presenters. To help present each award were special guests Nadia Theodore (Consul General of Canada in Atlanta), Alicia Philipp (President of the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta) and Madhu Sheth (The Sheth Family Foundation).
"It was such an honor to have these women, who have already accomplished so much in their own right, not only to be here tonight, but for them to acknowledge the accomplishments of other women, elevates everything to a much higher level! said Manoj Barot, Executive Director of Narayan Seva Sansthan USA.
The generous event sponsors included The Sheth Family Foundation, Seeds of Hope Legal Aid Inc., Mustafa Ajmeri and SAI World Peace Center.
In Sanskrit, SHAKTI means power, ability, strength, might, effort, energy, and capability. SHAKTI is the concept of divine feminine creative power and also represents the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the entire universe.
The 2019 Narayan Seva Sansthan inaugural SHAKTI Award Reception on the occasion of International Womens Day (March 8th) was the beginning of the endless celebration of empowering women and their energy to change the world.
According to Prashant Agarwal, Global President of Narayan Seva Sansthan, "When we decided to launch the very first Narayan Seva Sansthan SHAKTI awards for 2019 in Atlanta, GA USA, we knew that it was very important to recognize the women who energize our world. We understand that the women around us have a huge role to play in the overall success of any endeavor.
Narayan Seva Sansthan had a huge responsibility in selecting their SHAKTI awardees because the award recipients are a representation of all the other women who have, and still are, energizing our world.
Each recipient is chosen based on 7 categories that are listed below: 1. Women Empowerment 2. Cultural / Performing Arts 3. Trail Blazers 4. Womens Health / Medical 5. Media 6. Great Supporters 7. Young Achievers
The vibrant SHAKTI Award Recipients are chosen based on their efforts and work to inspire others to excel in all that they do. These are women who are doing and supporting great work and are going to continue doing so, thereby improving their communities, keeping their culture alive, venturing into unexplored sectors, rising above barriers, advocating for womens health and mentoring future leaders.
