8/21/1995Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, noted physics scientist, died at the age of 84. He was one of the world's leading astro-physicists for his contributions to the study of stars. Chandrasekhar had received the highest award in Science--the Noble Prize in Physics in 1983.
2/9/1985Editor of 'Sakal', a Marathi daily newspaper, passed away.
2/9/1985Mian Tansen, a prominent figure of North Indian (Hindustani) classical music and famous singer of Akbar's court, died at Gwalior. Tansen is remembered for his epic Dhrupad compositions, creating several new ragas, as well as for writing two classic books on music Sri Ganesh Stotra and Sangita Sara.
