9/23/1965The Indian Army secured the Kashmir Valley and the only object left was to clean out the remnants of the Gibraltar Force. Under the guidance of United Nations, the cease-fire came into effect.
1/29/1931Gandhiji sails for England as Congress delegate to Second Round Table Conference. This conference was attended by Madan Mohan Malaviya and Sarojini Naidu.
10/6/1998Railways wins the BOB-Senior National Hockey championship for women defeating Haryana in the final at Chennai.
2/18/1871Vithhalbhai Javherbhai Patel, great nation lover and veteran parliament member, was born.
4/9/1965Fighting breaks out in the Rann of Kutch between Indian and Pakistani troops. Pakistan attacked Indian borders, Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet, this was manned by the State Armed Police Batallions. In Kutch launched its 8th Infantry Division supported by two regiments of M47/48 Pattons. Operation 'Desert Hawk' was launched to draw away reserves from other vulnerable areas, and possibly to test India's resolve. The Indian Army did not rise to the bait.
11/16/1860First group of Indian worker's reached Natal, South Africa.
10/1/1854Postal stamp introduced in India. These lithographed stamps were of denominations of half anna and one anna. These stamps bore the Head of Queen Victoria with India at top and value at bottom. The half anna stamp was printed between May 5 to July 29 and printing of one anna stamp commenced on July 26.
