Vinayak Damodar Savarkar ""Veer Savarkar"", great revolutionary freedom fighter, social reformer, politician and writer, passed away at the ripe old age of 83. He was known for the first person to flee by swimming from Port Blair Jail and was associated with right-wing Hindu Mahasabha, started the Abinav Bharat as a secret society of revolutionary terrorists. He was a great Novelist and Poet.

9/10/1943	Satyendra Chandra Bardhan, Vakkom Abdul Khader, Fouja Singh, Boniface Pereira and Anandan were hanged on charges of conspiracy to ""wage war against the King"" under the Ememy Agents Ordinance (which was given retrospective effect) at Madras Jail. They sang Vande Mataram and shouted ""Bharat Mata Ki Jai"" when they were being hanged.
2/3/1954	Over 350 Hindus trampled to death in a stampede at religious rites at New Delhi.
8/20/1993	Mother Teresa hospitalized for malaria.
6/21/1994	The Janata Dal splits again, 14 of its 39 Lok Sabha members seek separate seats as a group.
4/15/1962	S. S. Khera was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of India. He held this office till 18-11-1964.
