How to get an New Georgia Driver's License

To obtain a new Georgia drivers license, if you are over 18 follow the rules given below

 

·        Go to Georgia Driver License office and apply in person.

·        Provide one or more documents that verify your Identity, name and date of birth.

·        Proof of Social Security Number must be provided.

·        Application (PDF) should be completed, photographed, fingerprinted, and provide your signature at the time of application.

·        The required fee should be paid by cash, money order or check only.

·        While appearing for the driving exam, provide the current liability insurance, Georgia vehicle registration, and inspection for the vehicle.

 

When will you get the Driver's License

          After passing the test, you will receive the license with photo by mail. Until then interim license will be issued which is valid for 60 days.

Moving from another state

          If you are moving to Georgia from another state, apply within 30 days to obtain Georgia driver’s license and follow standard steps as in Georgia driver’s license.

Renewing a Georgia State Driver’s License

How to renew your License

Georgia State Driver’s License can be renewed through online by DDS Internet Services.

·        Only US Citizen can renew through online and non US Citizen must renew in person.

·        Your license has not been expired in more than two years.

·        You must have a recent photo and signature on film with DDS.

·        Commercial driver license must be renewed in person.

·        You must be less than 64 years of age and if you are over 64 years of age, you must take a vision test.

·        You don’t have a Bi-Optic restriction on your license.

·        National Guard license cannot be renewed online.

·        You must have a verified social security number.

  • The cost varies from $20 for 5 years to $35 for 8 years.
  • You can make payment through American Express, Discover, Master Card and Visa

Your license will be processed, renewed and mailed to you in about 30 business days.

 

 

Serving in the military?

If you are a military service person, you should

·        Provide a copy of your military id card, Proof of Social Security Number.

·        Fill in and sign the Driver License or Identification card application.

·        Fee should be paid.

·        Copy of your Leave and Earnings Statement which shows Georgia as your home of record must be provided.

How to get a Georgia state ID card

 To apply and get an ID card, you must

·        You can apply to the DDS for an identification card with the acceptable proof if identification.

  • The cost varies from $20 for 5 years to $35 for 8 years.

·        You must provide a valid proof for Georgia residence address as a Utility bill, Bank statement or health insurance statement.

·        You must provide an original or certified copy of birth certificate, immigration I. D. card and a valid passport.

·        You must provide a valid social security number and if you are not eligible provide a letter of ineligibility for a Social Security number (Form SSAL676).

·        If you are a U.S. Citizen then provide a proof of citizenship and Non-U.S. citizens must provide proper immigration documentation.

 

The identification card will be issued with different number, if you have a Georgia driver license or commercial driver license.

Replacing a Lost Drivers License

To replace the lost or stolen license, you must  

·        Go to Georgia Driver License office in person.

·        You can replace only if you had a regular non-commercial license or ID.

·        You must be a Georgia resident and U.S Citizen.

·        You can replace up to 3 lost license per year.

·        You will be receiving your license by mail in 14 days.
